Hey everyone! Been a while since our last newsletter and QNA!
Figured now would be a good time to post an update on development considering the recent reception we've been getting.
How do you see the state of v4 as it is right now? What are some plans you're proud of that you'd wanna share?
Development’s been pretty stable, it definitely slowed down a bit due to finals, but things have been picking up, so no worries!
The story itself has gotten good progress, despite how much left there still is to write but it's been going steadily! Seeing the
themes I've been eager to portray here for so long slowly come to life makes me so happy and excited to progress further!
I'd like to be completely honest about DEMO 2 and say a Q4 2025 release won't be happening. Shortly after Funkkast, we
realized the 2nd demo should probably be more representative of our final product, so some of the structure was rearranged
in favor of that. While the demo will sadly need some more time, I believe it'll be worth it in the long run, so I hope you guys
like it when we release!
I think it's pretty solid. I think we have most of our basic groundwork laid out and what we want to go with going forward,
it's just a matter of ironing things out and how to progress things, but we already have some pretty good progress on that!
there's quite a bit more to be fleshed out and assets to be made, but I'm sure we'll have things ready!
I don't think there's anything concrete I can share, but the ideas I have for Brooke, and a character I probably shouldn't mention,
and how the finale will play out are very exciting for me. I'm also very careful with handling metaphors and using certain imagery as a
way to represent the core themes we're going for. i'm looking forward to pulling all of that off proper
How does it feel working on the project?
It's pretty back and forth for me. ive always loved ourple, though, that's never changed! what i do for the project has shifted alot in v4.
i was around even during the v1 days, but theres nothing i could've contributed back then, so i only saw it while lex and loss worked on it.
during v2, i was the main coder though, and did most of the programming work since at the time, that's what i usually did for projects.
in v3, i was more on the backseat, but i also generally helped with feedback and all that. now in v4, i've completely moved on from coding work
and now focus entirely on writing and the general structure of the mod and what to do for it. i always liked hyper-analyzing and reading
between the lines, so getting to use the stuff i've learned in ourple is very fun!! i honestly never thought i'd have the chance to or that i
even wanted to, but now that i'm doing it, it's been very very enjoyable! the back and forth part is just that i'm a little inconsistent with
development, sometimes i'm super focused and get work done when asked relatively quickly, other times i'm pretty tabbed out, but regardless,
i always took things at my own pace, so i always have fun working on it when i do! i have fun interacting with people from the community every
so often as well (dont be afraid if you ever wanna reach out or ask me something! I like talking about this mod haha). all in all, it sure has been
a hell of a ride for the past like.. 3-4 years?? jeez.. and of course, i hope by the time it's all set and done, that i can safely say alongside the
other developers that we did our ideas justice, and delivered on what we hoped to achieve. see you all on the flipside!
Feels pretty alright! I try to be honest about what I will and won’t work on and that works for the way I tend to work on projects anyway.
Big G is pretty good at reminding me when I forget too. Sometimes I wish I did more work on Ourple Guy, though. It’s a pretty big deal and is
probably the biggest thing I’ve ever worked on, so I wanna be able to look at what I made on it fondly.
I suppose there’s a bit of pressure there, yeah?
I feel stunned and a lil’ prideful if I’m being honest! I cannot say I expected it to become nearly as big as it is now.
A little old joke mod turning into something this big is certainly a weird feeling, but I can’t say it wasn’t a gradual turn. It’s kinda ironic
how we had so much DSAF inspiration for a while because the way Ourple Guy is now really makes me reminisce on that. Seeing people
theorize about the teasers makes me feel so happy and really makes me realize how lucky I am to be on this thing since day one. I’m real
excited to see the final product and how people will react to it.
It feels like a lot of things, I don't know where to start. Admittedly nerve-racking or hard at times, but doesn't make it any less exciting
or fun! I feel incredibly lucky to have this project and the people on this team. It feels like I'm improving everything I love creating with
these people and I love to see myself and others here grow as we continue to move forward. I really cherish everyone on here, so.. if i had
to pick one word to describe how it feels, definitely eye-opening. I've learned (and will continue to learn) a lot as a director, as a creator,
and especially as a person, which I'm grateful for. So I have all my loved ones to thank :]
How do you feel about YOUR progress on the project so far?
I have a lot of different answers to this question, so I’ll try to make it brief. At one point, I felt really upset that Ourple Guy had become
such a phenomenon when, to me, it was a project I had put very minimal effort into. I thought that what I contributed to the mod was not
enough for it to be worthy of being popular. It ended up growing into a resentment of sorts. At another point, I felt like I had to live up
to that hype that was there. I felt that I sorta had to prove myself to be worthy of all this popularity and expectation, so I just ended
up disappointing myself over it. Where I am now, I feel like even though I want to live up to what people expect, all I have to do is ask for
Big G for something to do. Right now, I’m feeling alright about what I’m doing for this project.
Why did you change the style in V3?
This one is a bit of a funny one. There was this really dumb song idea we had for the whole DLC V3 thing and I ended up drawing the
sprites really really small in comparison to V2’s sprites. That was kinda like a little bullet point in my head to start remaking Ourple’s Style again.
At first, I just tried making the V2 sprites frame by frame to add a bit more appeal to the motion, but it just really made me realize how much
I didn’t like those sprites. So come MewMix, I just ended up remaking the style again, this time drawing more inspiration from V1’s look. V3’s style
just became far easier to draw with and to create animations because I don’t have to worry about making mistakes when drawing larger. Plus I
always found the V2 look to be pretty sloppy and too round.
What is something you’re most proud of?
Of the things that are revealed, I feel that my proudest work is probably the sprites I made for RXQ, especially the idle.
I tried my best to give off that “Restrained Feral Animal” vibe with it.
TEASERS
I’ve been meaning to show off just a bit of what we’ve been doing! While writing the story for V4, we’ve been applying some wanted polish to
V3’s songs on the side as well. Here’s a look at some of what we’ve been working on!

IN REGARD TO FUTURE UPDATES ON PROGRESS!
Heads up, expect a bit of quiet from me until the demo releases though, I plan to private/log off my twitter again
like I did from November of last year up til April, so I can focus on college and spend less time on social media to reflect on myself.
Although I probably will come back online for when the demo releases, so no worries.
COMMUNITY QNA
Of course, we can’t have our newsletter without holding another QNA inbox in the Community Server! Have a look at how the characters responded to some of your questions!
CONCLUSION
That being said, I'm very excited to see where the team and I move forward and I'm excited for you all to see what we make!
Thank you guys for the love and support, means a lot to us :]
